With all this talk of global
warming and climate change, isn't it nice to know we are in the business
of working with Nature rather than against it. Of course, Nature also
comes in the form of deer, elk, and rabbits which often have a negative
impact on your plantings.
After much research into this
problem, we are pleased to announce that V. Kraus Nurseries is now an
authorized dealer for Plantskydd®, and effective, non-toxic, repellant
for deer, elk, and rabbits. Plantskydd® uses all natural ingredients to
initiate a predation response before your plants are eaten which
is preferable to methods that try dissuade animals that have already
acquired a taste for your valuable plant stock.
Application:
Optimize
Plantskydd®
by diluting each 2.2 lb. package in up to 6 gal. of water. Test using
different dilution rates applied at different frequencies - every 2-6
weeks depending on growth rates and level of browse.

-
Wet container first to
avoid powder sticking to sides. Pour powder into mixing container.
-
Slowly stir equal parts of
water into powder to make a lumpless paste/slurry (an electric
paint mixer paddle is ideal).
-
-
Pour solution through fine
mesh filter or cheese cloth into pressure-type sprayer.

" ...Studies investigating trends in efficacy of deer repellents
indicate that, of the 20 products tested, repellents with active
ingredients that emitted sulfurous odors i.e.: bloodmeal or egg
solids, generally provided the best results..."

A Bonus:
The active
ingredient in Plantskydd®
is bloodmeal which has long been recognized as an organic fertilizer.
"All plants tested that were treated with Plantskydd ®
were larger, had more flowers and generally had greener leaves. This
response is typical of the response created by an increased level of
fertilization."
