Back to pear index

Zone:      5 - 9
Ripens:      Middle of September
Fertility:       A self-pollinator but will beneift from a second variety nearby - Nijisseiki, Shinseiki, Shinko
Skin Colour:      Green with orangish-brown russeting.
Flesh:      White. Crisp. Apple-like.
Flavour:      Mild. Slightly aromatic.
Usage:      High sugar content - good for cooking
Storage:      Up to five months in cold storage
Notes:      A vigorous, drooping, medium-sized tree that is a reliable early bearer. It responds well to thinning but dry climates adversely affect fruit quality

It has some resistance to pear scab and Alternaria black spot but is somewhat susceptible to fire blight and should be sprayed against coddling moth. Spider mites can also be a problem that is best controlled with frequent watering and an application of mite spray before harvesting the fruit.

As with all Asian pears, the fruit needs to be handled gently and packed carefully into padded boxes.
